Luke Una

Luke Una

Luke Una has been described as “the hero dance music never knew it needed,” lauded for his genre- defying DJ sets and his commitment to creating inclusive, soulful spaces. Beginning his journey as an original Sheffield house young blood in the mid-1980s, and later making his mark in Manchester, Luke Una has spent four decades shaping underground music culture. His genre-defying, alchemic fusion of sounds has taken him across the globe, earning him respect as both a DJ and cultural instigator. Originally one half of The Unabombers with Justin Crawford, Luke co-created The Electric Chair, a cult UK club night that became legendary through the 1990s. It was here that his deep, exploratory sets – alongside the likes of Theo Parrish, Moodymann and Harvey – established his reputation. The pair later formed The Elektrons, drawing critical acclaim. Luke’s contributions span club nights, fanzines, radio shows, labels and festivals. He co-founded Croatia’s Electric Elephant and is the driving force behind Manchester’s long-running Homoelectric and its 12,000-strong sister festival Homobloc, both vital fixtures in the UK’s LGBTQ+ cultural landscape. His Worldwide FM shows, born during the pandemic, became cult listening, while his partnership with Mr Bongo produced the acclaimed É Soul Cultura compilations, now a label and event series in its own right.
